Meet Ginene Scott

From running recovery at Auckland Hospital to running Capes Medical Supplies, Ginene Scott is relishing the challenge of helping New Zealand’s healthcare providers access better quality medical supplies at fairer prices.

If you ask people to describe Ginene, you’ll often hear the same two words: tenacious and kind. And while she’s focused and determined, underneath that is a genuine drive to care for others and to see people succeed.

Born at Greenlane Hospital and raised in West Auckland, Ginene grew up in the close-knit town of Waimauku and spent years volunteering with Muriwai Beach Surf Life Saving Club. Her community spirit and desire to serve others is why she originally set her sights on joining the police force. She applied straight out of school, only to be turned down because she didn’t meet the height requirement at the time. By the time that rule was changed, she was already well into nursing training and committed to the path she had chosen.

As it turns out, nursing was exactly where she was meant to be.

She trained at Carrington Technical Institute in Auckland (now Unitec) and began her nursing career in aged care before moving into neurosurgical intensive care at Auckland Hospital. From there, she transitioned into PACU, the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, eventually working her way up to Charge Nurse.

PACU was a fast-paced, high-responsibility environment. One moment, the team could be caring for a high-acuity patient straight out of the ICU, the next managing a routine case. Either way, the accountability was real, and the standards were high. The role demanded resilience, sharp time management, strong teamwork, and the importance of turning up properly for the people around you. In that setting, what you do truly matters.

Those years shaped Ginene’s work ethic and reinforced what she had always believed: healthcare is about people. It’s about being present in critical moments and knowing that your actions can make a genuine difference.

Balancing her career with life as a solo mum wasn’t easy. Shift work meant missed milestones, and over time, she realised she wanted more stability so she could be there for her son. In 2006, she moved into medical sales with Kimberly-Clark, beginning a new chapter that spanned nearly two decades across surgical consumables, drapes, gowns, and infection prevention. She went on to work with organisations including REM Systems, Device Technologies, and 3M before joining Capes Medical Supplies and the BSNZ Group.

Today, as General Manager of Capes Medical Supplies, Ginene brings that frontline insight into every decision she makes. She understands the pressure clinicians are under because she has experienced it herself. She knows hospital budgets are stretched and that supply needs to be dependable. That’s why she’s focused on ensuring healthcare providers can access high-quality, clinically proven products at fairer prices. She’s also driven to find ways to help ease the burden on health professionals wherever she can.

Inside Capes, that same mindset applies. She backs her team, encourages accountability, and supports people to grow into roles they’re proud of. She is tenacious in her pursuit of better outcomes and kind in her leadership.

We’re incredibly grateful for the leadership, heart, and determination Ginene brings to Capes every day. Thanks for being such an important part of our team and for leading with purpose. 💚
